Irene Hartfield has been known as "The Webgoddess" since 1996 when she moved from New York City to the suburbs of Minneapolis and got a job with a tech startup doing their web projects. WAM!NET provided Irene with the means to leave New York, her home of 25 years, and was the first of two corporate jobs she held over the 7 years she lived in the Twin Cities area (the second was Department 56, a gift and collectibles manufacturer). That was long enough to decide that corporate life was not for her.

When Irene decided to move to Ely in 2002, the challenge was making a living in a non-urban area. But since Irene had viable skills in web design and consulting, all she needed was a high-speed internet connection and she could do business with clients all over the country, which she does. "I currently have clients in Florida, New York, Oregon, Texas, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Arizona, and, of course, the Twin Cities and locally." In fact, Irene just finished this website for the Ely Area Development Association.

Irene is also a musician (she worked full-time in New York as a musician for 15 years), so she plays for two local church services?(plus weddings and funerals), puts on concerts, conducts community choirs, and sometimes participates in community musical events like the annual spring musical and the Voyageur Winter Festival opening ceremonies.

"I like going to an event or a restaurant and always running into someone I know. That's NOT an urban experience, but it is a small town experience."

Irene's business tagline is "Big city experience, small town service."
