This Forest Service project is registered for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, through the United States Green Building Council and has a goal of achieving a LEED ‘Silver’ Rating. Credit points are achieved during design and construction which take into account such things as water efficiency, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, etc. Higher ratings are achieved by incorporating more sustainable project elements such as erosion and sediment control, reduced site disturbance, storm water management, etc.
Interpretive exhibits are also being incorporated into the public area. The Forest Service is working with a variety of partners throughout the community to complete the exhibits which will provide visitors with information about this unique area, how it’s managed, and how to care for it.
