(Ely, MN) Cities working together to attract a large business to northeastern Minnesota recently identified two companies for initial recruitment efforts. The companies will be contacted before the middle of December. One company is a regional wind energy product manufacturer and the other is a Midwest wood products manufacturer. Additional companies have been targeted for future recruitment efforts.

The recruitment efforts are a result of a regional asset inventory and identification of the area's selling points that would attract a large scale industry. The group benefited from assistance from the MN Department of Employment and Economic Development and the Northspan Group as members developed recruitment plans and targeted industries.

The Business Edge Corridor (TBEC) is comprised of the cities of Cook, Tower and Ely in northeastern Minnesota. The working group formed to develop a targeted marketing plan to promote a $4 million area business incentive that was the result of the 2006 Minnesota legislative session. Babbitt, Minnesota is also named in the legislation. The group is seeking businesses interested in bringing at least 200 new jobs to the area. Interested parties may call 218.365.3012 or 218.666.2200.
