New Pamida Store Groundbreaking Scheduled

( Ely, MN ) Groundbreaking for a new Pamida store in Ely, MN will be held on Monday, 11 June 2007 at 11:30 a.m. The event will take place at the future site of the store at 15th Avenue and Sheridan Street on the east end of Ely where Highway 1 from Minnesota’s North Shore joins Highway 169 at the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).

The event will feature Pamida’s Jim Larson, Vice President of Property Development, and Mike Murley, Director of Real Estate. Mark Johnson of JMW Development, the project developer, and representatives of Vanguard Construction, the general contractor, will also attend the event as will Ely representatives who worked with Johnson and JMW Development to bring the proposed plans for expansion to reality in Ely.

 

Pamida currently operates an 8,000 square foot pharmacy store that opened in 1975 on Chapman Street in downtown Ely. The new site will feature a 32,880 square foot store with a full range of products and services and a drive-through pharmacy window. An additional feature at the new site will be on-site parking. The new store is anticipated to open in November 2007; the existing store will continue to operate until the new store is open.

 

Pamida, headquartered in Omaha, NE , is a national retailer focused on bringing value and convenience to rural communities. The company is affiliated with Sun Capital Partners, Inc., a leading private investment firm. Pamida operates 207 stores in 16 states, primarily in the Midwest , and provides a mix of hard and soft line and seasonal merchandise. The company operates pharmacies in over half the stores. Pamida’s mission is to provide greater selection, quality and value to customers in smaller, rural communities. The new Ely, MN store is one of thirteen store openings planned for 2007.
