EADA Executive Director Nancy Larson continues to pursue business recruitment and developing Project Firefly; however, has placed assisting local businesses as a top priority. The EADA Board strongly supports the shift in strategy and has generated ideas to implement the new strategy.

The EADA has sponsored several “Business Mixers” for local business owners. The Business Mixers are an opportunity for business owners to come together in a social setting and discuss their business products/services and issues and challenges in this economy. Each Business Mixer includes a presenter to advise business owners of financial resources and business services available to them.

The EADA will also be showcasing businesses and products manufactured locally in the “trophy showcases” located in the office space. If you have products or pictures, etc. you would like displayed, please contact the EADA office.

A committee of the EADA is exploring what other communities have done to create sustainable industry using the unique resources available in their communities. The EADA, with the financial help of the Chamber of Commerce, have contracted with the University of Minnesota Extension Office to conduct an Ely Area Market Profile. Once completed, the market profile will reveal the spending habits and lifestyles of customers including local and seasonal residents and tourists. The market profile will identify gaps in products and services available in the Ely area and open up new opportunities for new and existing businesses.
