The Ely Area Development Association (EADA) Board of Directors added two new members at the quarterly meeting of the Board held Wednesday, 22 August 2007. Both members were elected to serve as members of the EADA Executive Board and the full Board of thirty members.
Mauro Caruso, owner of Custom Theaters in Ely, was elected to a one year term to replace former member Roger Skraba. In addition to owning an Ely area business, Caruso's experience includes the U.S. Marine Corps, corporate operations manager, corporate budget development, business owner, law enforcement, and membership in the Financial Advisory Committee for Independent School District (ISD) #696 in Ely.
Craig Pagel, President of the Iron Mining Association of Minnesota based in Duluth, MN, was elected to a two year term to replace former member Jeff Sundell. Pagel joined the Iron Mining Association of Minnesota in April, 2007. Prior experience includes legislative representative for Allete/Minnesota Power and customer service representative and budget analyst for Minnesota Power. In his role with the Iron Mining Association, Pagel's responsibilities include working with the six taconite mines and businesses that provide the products and services to the mines as well as other stakeholders interested in the mining process in Northeast Minnesota.
In other business, the EADA Executive Board moved that current officers will fill the role of Chairperson of the organization. Current officers are: Vice Chairman Charlie Chernak, Bear Island Land Co.; Treasurer Bill Roloff, WELY Radio Station Manager; and Secretary Betsy Leustek, ISD #696 School Board Member and area parent involved in athletic and civic organizations.
The EADA Board also passed a resolution to comply with the requirements of an Iron Range Resources grant for Project Firefly, a project to develop local innovation. In other business, the Board recommended a 2008 budget to the Community Economic Development Joint Powers Board and the member jurisdictions.
